We pick up a mid-sized camper, which is pretty roomy for just the two of us.
We have no set plans and not even a campsite booked for the evening. The original rental email says to make sure you have your first night accomodation booked. (Wish I had read this earlier!). The man at the office told us that 50% of people turn up with everything booked and 50% have no plans. I am only mildly reassured.
We are given a scrappy piece of paper which is allegedly a map of Las Vegas, which shows the RV office, the route to the Interstate and Walmart.
Reluctantly we head to Walmart for supplies. Whilst this store has practically everything you could possibly need (except teapots) the food stuff is disappointing, hardly anything is organic. We had been spoilt in Oregon with New Seasons and Trader Joes
As we are browsing the store I spot a very reasonably priced GPS system and sneak it into the shopping trolley. Stuart has never wanted a GPS system and has always relied on Wendy Nav in the past. But Wendy Nav's eyes aren't what they used to be and map reading is getting harder.
In the camper I introduce Stuart to our new toy
When I went on an overland trip to Africa there was a safe on board the overland truck, and we were all told to call the safe Bob. This was to avoid anyone overhearing us talking about a safe and thinking there were significant valuables on board worth stealing. So a few years ago when Stuart and I bought a mini laptop for travelling she was named Lola, so that we weren't overheard discussing a laptop. She has recently been joined by Izzy iPad, who also travels with us. Therefore the new GPS also needed a name, and we decided to call her Gladys!
I have never used a GPS system before and I'm amazed to find that it will tell you where the nearest RV parks are and where the nearest stores are. This all sounds too easy, it feels like cheating!
