Zion

Zion is one of the closest National Parks to Vegas, so with the help of Gladys we head in that direction.

We know that we are too late to get into the state park campsite, so we end up in a very functional, but completely soulless RV site a few miles away from the park.  Admittedly we arrive late and leave early, but we don't talk to a single other camper.

We solve this problem the next day by arriving at the State camp ground at 6.30 am and being first in the queue (by a significant margin) for one of the first come first served spots!  As we were wandering around the site trying to figure out where to park we talk to 6 different sets of people.  This is more like it!  The RVs and tents are all mixed together which makes for a very convivial atmosphere.

We spend the first day at Zion orientating ourselves, taking the shuttle bus up and down the canyon and doing a couple of the gentle hikes. It's warm and sunny, the scenery is beautiful, we're really looking forward to the next couple of days.
