M. m. m. my Sedona

... it has the Knack of drawing you in.

What a delightful town this turned out to be!  After our lovely supper at Elote, we headed to a fabulous State Park called Dead Horse Ranch 20 miles further West.

However, we had been impressed by what we saw of Sedona, so decided to return there the following day.

The town had a very laid back vibe, and there was a lot of focus on "alternative" lifestyles ( spin your chakras, photograph your auras etc). Some hiking notes even said not to build medicine wheels along the trails, whatever they are.  Apparently, there are some vortexes nearby channelling different energies, we didn't find them, the heat drained all our energies.

Misting machines on patios seems to be a thing in Sedona, I don't think they will catch on in the UK.  Any restaurant with outdoor seating comes with free natural misting (drizzle!).

Afternoon coffee was spent listening to free Blues music at Starbucks

We spent so much time dawdling around Sedona that we suddenly realised we had to hurry up to the Red Rock canyon trail or we would miss sunset.  (We don't do hurry up very well these days)

Walking along the trail we went past a spot called Buddha beach, there are hundreds possibly thousands of small stone cairns built there.  It is indeed a very strange place.

Fortunately, we made it to the ultimate rock location for sunset.  This is Cathedral Rock and allegedly is the second most photographed rock in the world (after Ayers Rock).  This was according to the man in the Sedona visitor centre, which I believe has closely affiliated links to the Lake Powell marketing board!
